Insomnia is a sleep disorder that a lot of people experience.

Although it is popularly characterized by difficulty in falling, it also involves being unable to stay asleep(waking up often during the night and having trouble going back to sleep), waking up too early in the morning and feeling tired upon waking.
This means you have insomnia if you suffer from one or more of the symptoms mentioned.
Some of the reasons/causes why you are suffering from insomnia include:

Too Much Light- This causes insomnia because it affects how well/poor you sleep negatively, it also causes you to wake up you should. The solution is to turn off the lights, all devices as these also emit light. Also, be sures to close your curtains in order to keep out light.

Mental Health Issues- Before you get scared, this does not refer to mental instability, in this context, it refers to stress, depression and so on. It is quite obvious that this could be the reason for your insomnia as anyone experiencing any of the above may find it difficult to go to sleep or stay asleep.

Alcohol- Although this has been known to help people sleep, it affects the quality of the sleep, as studies suggest, the worse your sleep will be impacted.

Age- So far, no one knows why this causes insomnia, however, it is quite clear this a cause of insomnia. This particularly affects women especially during the onset of menopause.

Too Much Napping– While it is good to nap, too much of it affects your sleep, so try not to nap for too long or after 3pm.
