Lionel Messi sought to allay the Argentina and Barça fans’ fears about his fitness by taking to social media to insist that he is perfectly alright. I’m fine, thanks a lot for all the messages
of support you’ve sent me! A hug”, the star wrote.
Alarm bells began to ring when news spread that the forward had unexpectedly left the Argentinian national team’s hotel in Washington DC in order to undergo a series of tests when the squad had the morning off.
All sorts of rumours were soon unleashed, including some suggesting that Messi had sustained an injury and would have to quit the Argentina camp and return to Barcelona, missing the friendlies against El Salvador and Ecuador.
However, that afternoon Messi was able to train normally with the rest of Gerardo Martino’s squad at Georgetown University. The Argentinian Football Association subsequently revealed that the tests were just a precaution in response to a knock the pint-sized wizard suffered in the ‘Clásico’.
