The very promising Argentina international has penned a five-and-a-half-year deal with Manchester City, who have paid a reported fee of 18.5 million euros plus add-ons.

Praise from Txiki Begiristain

“Julian is a player we have monitored for some time,” Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain told the club’s official website.

“He is capable of operating in a number of attacking roles, and we firmly believe he’s one of the best young attacking players in South America.

I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player.”

Alvarez was in excellent form for River during the 2020/21 season, as he scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 21 Argentine Primera Division games.
