Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have arrived in Bissau ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, scheduled for Tuesday.
The delegation—including players, coaches, and support staff—departed Nigeria on Sunday from Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, following their 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday.
According to Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe, the team held a final training session in Uyo on Sunday morning before boarding a chartered ValueJet flight to Bissau at around 5 p.m. They landed at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport at approximately 8:40 p.m.
The Super Eagles are set to face Guinea-Bissau, who currently top Group L after their 2-0 win over Tanzania in the opening fixture. Nigeria’s opponents, known as the Djurtus, are ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa. The match will take place at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro on Tuesday.
Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria have met four times previously, with Guinea-Bissau claiming one win—a 1-0 victory in Abuja during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. Only the group winner will qualify for AFCON 2027, as Tanzania have secured qualification as co-hosts. This makes Tuesday’s encounter crucial for both teams as they look to strengthen their standing in Group L.
