More bank customers urge CBN to postpone BVN registration

BVN
Bank customers in Kogi has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend the closing date for the registration of Bank Verification Number (BVN). The customers, who made the called when they spoke with NAN in Lokoja on Tuesday, said the extension was necessary to enable them to complete their registrations.
A Civil Servant, Mr Segun Ishola, reasoned that since many customers had not registered, the CBN ought to extend the date by at least one month to enable to do son.

Ishola opined that not allowing people to register for the BVN would discourage people from banking.
“We cannot afford to lose our account because of BVN registration,” Ishola said.
Another customer, Mr Jude Obadiah, accused the CBN and the commercial banks of not making adequate public enlightenment on the exercise.
Obadiah said that most customers did not know what the BVN was all about, especially the uneducated customers.
“There is need to extend the closing date to give opportunity to those who find it difficult to register at the end of today,” Obadiah said.
A trader, Mrs Justina Ameh, said she just heard about the BVN registration three days ago from her friend in the market.
Ameh said that she had been coming for the past three days to get the registration done but to no avail.
She, therefore, appealed to CBN to extend the closing date of the registration to afford those yet to be captured to do so.
A security officer, Mr Adamson Alabi, told NAN that he was able to register after several trials with his bank.
“I came very early today, around 5:00 a.m. and that was why I was able to pick number 50. l just did my registration around 12 p.m. after standing for several hours before it got to my turn,” he said.
He urged the Federal Government to intervene and compel the CBN to extend the closing date.
A bank official, Mr Alex Bello, blamed bank customers for the late hour registration.
Bello said that Nigerians always took things for granted until the eleventh hour before rushing to do what they ought to do.
He expressed optimism that the CBN would extend the closing date for the registration to afford those who could not meet up with today’s deadline to do so.
NAN reports that the CBN had fixed June 30, as the closing date for all banks to complete their BVN registration.
