Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred showcased her speed and resilience at the Miramar Invitational on April 5, defeating World 200m champion Shericka Jackson in a thrilling 300m showdown. Alfred clocked an impressive 36.05s, setting a new Saint Lucian national record.
Despite a strong start from Jackson, who kept pace with Alfred throughout the race, it was the Saint Lucian star who surged ahead in the final 10 meters to secure the victory. Jackson, who is still working her way back to peak form, finished second in 36.16s, while Ivorian sprinter Jessika Gbai completed the podium in third with a time of 36.24s.
Alfred, who has remained undefeated in sprint races against top competitors since her Diamond League 100m title victory last year, will now shift her focus to her signature events—100m and 200m—as she prepares for the upcoming Tokyo World Championships in September.
