Arsenal Crush Real Madrid’s Comeback Dreams, Arteta Outclasses Ancelotti at the Bernabeu

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal stormed into the Champions League semi-finals with a stunning 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, sealing a dominant 5-1 aggregate victory and raising serious questions over Carlo Ancelotti’s future in Spain.

Madrid had hoped for another famous remontada after going 3-0 down in the first leg in London. But despite the hype and belief in Bernabeu “magic”, Arsenal showed up, silenced the crowd, and shut the door on any comeback dreams.

Early on, Bukayo Saka missed a penalty, sparking hope for Madrid. But that was as good as it got for the 15-time champions. Saka redeemed himself in the second half with a cool finish, and though Vinicius Jr pounced on a rare mistake from William Saliba to equalise, Gabriel Martinelli finished things off with a late goal in stoppage time.

Madrid were toothless crossing endlessly with no proper target, and playing like Joselu was still on the team, when he’s long gone to Qatar. Even with big names like Kylian Mbappe on the pitch, Madrid looked flat. Mbappe barely threatened before limping off injured, potentially missing key upcoming games.

Winners & Losers:

WINNER: Mikel Arteta
He’s been doubted time and again, but Arteta’s tactical masterclass in both legs has silenced critics. He balanced defensive discipline with sharp counter-attacks, proving Arsenal are a force in Europe again.

LOSER: Kylian Mbappe
Madrid was supposed to be his Champions League breakthrough. Instead, he was locked down by Saliba and left the pitch injured. A nightmare night for the superstar.

WINNER: Declan Rice
Absolute dominance. After a brilliant first leg, he bossed the midfield again passing with precision, defending with grit, and making life hard for Madrid’s top talents. Another Player of the Match award well deserved.

LOSER: Carlo Ancelotti
Madrid had no plan. 42 crosses, only 7 completed. No answers to Arsenal’s structure, no spark in attack. With Xabi Alonso and Brazil eyeing his job, this could be the end of the road.

WINNER: Arsenal’s Defence
Saliba, Timber, Lewis-Skelly, and Kiwior were all rock-solid. Despite one slip from Saliba, they neutralised Madrid’s biggest threats and held firm all night.

LOSER: Madrid’s European Vibes
All the talk of Bernabeu magic and past comebacks didn’t matter. Madrid simply didn’t show up. Their aura in Europe took a major hit and the excuses are running out
