Nigerian media personality Eric Gugua has sparked controversy with recent remarks about the challenges faced by Nigerians seeking to travel abroad.
Expressing his frustration over being unable to attend an upcoming blockchain conference in London, Eric described being born in Nigeria as a “generational curse” due to the difficulties associated with obtaining visas.
He highlighted the arduous process Nigerians must endure, explaining, “If you are born in Nigeria, you are under a generational curse. There’s a blockchain conference in London next week, but I know I can’t attend.
I’d need to apply for a visa months in advance and submit countless documents.
Everybody else in the world doesn’t need to apply for anything to be in London the following week; I have to submit my passport months in advance and provide every document down to my birth certificate.
Eric’s comments have ignited discussion about the obstacles many Nigerians face when attempting to travel internationally, particularly the extensive requirements and lengthy timelines for visa applications.
