Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has insisted that he still has the full backing of the club’s hierarchy, despite the team’s recent struggles and disappointing results.
The Blues have secured just five wins in their last 16 league matches, slipping to sixth place in the Premier League, while their latest setback was a 2-1 home defeat to Legia Warsaw. Despite advancing to the Conference League semi-finals with a 4-2 aggregate victory, the team faced boos from fans at Stamford Bridge, reflecting growing frustration with the Italian manager.
However, Maresca, who took over from Leicester City last summer on a five-year deal, is confident that the club’s owners and co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart remain fully supportive.
“Yeah, absolutely, yes,” Maresca stated. “We cannot change the idea the day after. We are still in a European semi-final, and we spent almost the entire season in top four, top five positions.”
Maresca highlighted the progress made this season, noting that Chelsea had not finished in the top four or top five for two years prior to his arrival. Despite the recent setbacks, he expressed no doubts about the direction the team is headed.
Chelsea will next face Djurgardens in the Conference League semi-final, with the first leg on May 1. Maresca’s side will also look to bounce back in the Premier League, taking on Fulham on Easter Sunday, hoping to avenge their Boxing Day defeat.
