Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his longtime role as Papa Ajasco, has announced a change in his stage name.
In a video posted on Instagram, Ayoyinka revealed that he will now be known as Bondu Alaska. This move follows recent revelations about his financial struggles and a dispute with Wale Adenuga, the owner of the Papa Ajasco brand, regarding the use of the character’s name.
In the video, he addressed his audience, saying:
Good morning Nigerians. My name is Bondu Alaska. The one and only Bondu Alaska.
He went on to thank Nigerians for their continued support and shared that he is embarking on a new chapter in his career, assuring fans that he will not let them down.
Reflecting the change, the actor has updated his Instagram handle to Bondu Alaska, encouraging both fans and brands to connect with him under his new identity.
Despite this transition, many fans remain attached to the Papa Ajasco name and have found it difficult to embrace the change. The renaming appears to be partly due to restrictions surrounding the use of the Papa Ajasco brand.
In response to Ayoyinka’s claims of financial hardship, Wale Adenuga stated that the actor’s assertions were untrue, noting that Ayoyinka had received various benefits over the years, including cars, and was never prohibited from pursuing other work outside the show.
