The Nigeria Police Force has deployed rapid response teams to examination centres nationwide in preparation for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This measure follows unfounded rumours circulating about threats to candidates’ safety, which the police have dismissed. In a statement released on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid emphasized that the police are aware of recent speculation regarding the safety of certain centres in a North Central state, but confirmed that these claims lack any factual basis.
The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that these claims are without basis, Placid stated. While the police do not respond to rumours, they have taken note of public concerns, especially regarding the safety and future of candidates.
To ensure a secure environment for all examinees, the police have implemented proactive measures ahead of the examination, which starts on Thursday. Additional security—both visible and undercover—has been assigned to centres nationwide, with routine patrols, perimeter checks, and rapid response teams positioned at key locations.
The police are also working closely with other security agencies to effectively monitor and respond to any potential threats. “Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” Placid warned.
Candidates, parents, and the public can be assured of adequate protection throughout the examination period. Candidates are advised to arrive early, comply with all regulations, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security personnel on site.
The public is cautioned against spreading unverified information on social media and is encouraged to rely on official updates from the police and JAMB. The Force reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and public confidence during all national activities, including the JAMB examinations.
Gidipoint reports that the 2026 UTME is scheduled to take place from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 25, 2026.
