Nigerian stand-up comedian Bovi Ugboma recently shared his perspective on marriage and divorce during an episode of The Morayo Show.
Bovi revealed that he actually celebrates when he hears about a divorce, explaining that he sees it as a sign that at least one partner was struggling in the marriage. In his view, divorce can offer much-needed relief to those who are unhappy, and he finds happiness in knowing that someone may have found freedom from a difficult situation.
I celebrate when people get divorced because I believe it means one or both partners were not breathing well in the marriage, Bovi said.
I don’t want to suffer, and I wouldn’t want anyone to suffer because of me. That doesn’t mean my own marriage has been easy for the past 17 years. It hasn’t. I got married at 29 and have been providing for 17 years nonstop.
Bovi emphasized that he prefers divorce to enduring toxicity in a marriage, highlighting the importance of personal well-being over staying in an unhappy relationship.
