Nollywood actor and comedian Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has shared the harrowing experience of being sidelined for months by a stray bullet injury a setback that left him fearful for his future in entertainment and anxious that his fans might forget him.
In a YouTube video posted Wednesday night, Broda Shaggi recounted the ordeal, corroborating PUNCH Online’s earlier exclusive report.
According to Gidipoint, the incident took place in March 2026 while Shaggi was filming a comedy skit beneath the Sango-Ota bridge. Although details around the shooting remain unclear, a police source confirmed that the social media star had sustained a gunshot wound.
The Ogun State Police Command, however, stated it could not verify whether the incident occurred within its jurisdiction. In a statement to the press, spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continued.
Shaggi explained that he was engaged in a routine brand activation assignment when he was struck by a stray bullet. Overwhelmed by fear and blood loss, he recalled being unconscious until he arrived at the hospital, only remembering praying during the journey.
A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating, holding my leg, seeing blood—and all I wanted was a doctor or nurse telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine, he shared.
The injury left Shaggi worried about his ability to continue his physically demanding career, which relies heavily on dancing and energetic performances.
He described moments of doubt, wondering if he would ever dance, sing, or play the drums again. Having maintained a relentless work schedule since 2018, the forced hiatus made him fear he might fade from the public’s memory.
To stay occupied during his hospital stay, he wrote and began a YouTube series, even as he grappled with uncertainty about returning to entertainment.
“There were times I’d watch videos of my colleagues and sometimes I’d just cry, not knowing if I’d ever be able to do what they were doing again,” he admitted.
Shaggi underwent surgery in Nigeria and was later advised to seek further treatment and physiotherapy abroad. After four months, he traveled to Dubai, where his recovery accelerated; he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Shaggi expressed gratitude that the bullet did not hit a more vital area. “It came to my hip. What if it had hit my head or a vital organ?”
Providing an update, he revealed he can now stand unaided but still uses crutches for support.
There was a time I couldn’t move without two crutches or even put my leg on the floor. Now, I can walk and stand alone, though I still need crutches for support.
Grateful for a second chance at life, Shaggi assured fans that new projects are on the way. I’m grateful to be alive. It’s a second chance.
You should also be grateful to have Shaggi back on your screen, because I’m returning with exciting projects,” he said, urging his followers to anticipate his comeback.
