The Anambra State Government has confirmed that the 10-year-old boy who was violently assaulted by his guardians in Awada, Obosi (Idemili North Local Government Area), is now receiving medical care and is under state protection.
Speaking to journalists in Awka on Monday, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, expressed gratitude to the concerned citizens of Anambra for promptly reporting the incident.
The boy is currently receiving treatment. My team, along with the Obosi community woman leader, has visited him. The perpetrators of this heinous act will face the full weight of the law, she stated. She further urged the public: If you see something, please say something.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a viral video circulating on social media showed the minor’s body with severe scald injuries, reportedly inflicted by his guardians, a woman and her husband. While the motive for the abuse remains unclear, another video showed residents of Awada, Obosi, confronting the suspects and condemning them for allegedly torturing the boy.
