Fans thrilled by pregnancy claim at Alex Ekubo’s burial

One of the most talked-about moments from the final burial of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, was a claim that his wife might be expecting his child.

The speculation arose when Alex’s remains were brought to the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu. During the brief stop, a statement was made—reportedly by a representative of the Eze Aro, as clarified by actress Victoria Inyama on Instagram praying that Alex’s lineage would continue.

He referenced rumors that the late actor’s wife was pregnant and expressed hopes that the child would surpass the father’s achievements.

A video of the remarks quickly went viral, eliciting mixed reactions on social media. While some people expressed genuine happiness at the possibility, describing it as a final gift from the late actor, others questioned the appropriateness of disclosing such personal information in public.

Some commentators suggested that Alex would have preferred the news, if true, to remain private and criticized the circulation of the video.

Amidst the emotional proceedings, Alex’s widow, Anwuli Ekubo, was seen dressed in white, her face partly concealed by a mask and sunglasses, quietly observing the ceremony in a subdued and grief-stricken manner.

Her composure and visible sorrow drew sympathy from mourners, many of whom described the event as deeply emotional, reflecting the actor’s private but influential life.

At the somber event, Abia State Governor Alex Otti—represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba—described Ekubo’s death as a monumental loss to Abia State, the Nigerian entertainment industry, and his millions of fans worldwide. Otti praised Ekubo not only as an entertainer but also as a cultural ambassador who showcased Abia State and Nigeria on the global stage.

The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother, and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador, and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honor to Abia State and Nigeria, he said.

During the funeral service, Pastor Eno Eze of Streams of Joy International, Umuahia, urged mourners to focus on building lasting legacies, emphasizing that the true measure of life is its impact on others. She encouraged attendees to lead purpose-driven lives marked by positive influence and service, noting that people are ultimately remembered for their values and the lives they touch.

In a related development, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from ‘The First Lady,’ the first film she made with Alex, would be donated to his family. While many praised the gesture, some criticized the timing, suggesting she should have waited until after the burial to make the announcement.

Notable guests at the burial included Ayo Makun, Obi Cubana, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, Pretty Mike, Stan Nze, Nons Miraj, IK Ogbonna, Yomi Casual, among others. Alex Ekubo, who passed away on May 11, 2026, was laid to rest following a series of funeral events that began with a service of songs in Lagos and continued with a wake in Arochukwu before the final interment.
