Algeria rallied from behind to defeat Jordan 2-1 in a World Cup Group J clash on Monday, knocking the Asian debutants out of the tournament.
After Nizar al-Rashdan put Jordan ahead, Amine Gouiri leveled the score, and Nadhir Benbouali netted Algeria’s decisive goal in the 82nd minute in Santa Clara.
The victory keeps Algeria’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive; they must beat Austria in Kansas City on Saturday to advance. Earlier on Monday, Austria fell 2-0 to Argentina, who now lead Group J with six points. Both Austria and Algeria have three points. Jordan will conclude their first World Cup campaign against Argentina in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday.
