The Ogun State Police Command has recovered the missing Lexus RX300 belonging to former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, who was found dead with her security guard at her home in Iyana Agodo Village, Ogun State.
Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi announced the recovery in a statement on Monday, explaining that police operatives found the vehicle during a night operation as investigations into the deaths intensified.
According to Babaseyi, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, visited the crime scene for an on-the-spot assessment and to review progress in the ongoing investigation. Ojajuni also received briefings from detectives handling the case.
The statement read in part: Further to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of retired broadcaster Ms Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, today visited the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment and to evaluate the progress of ongoing investigative efforts personally.
It is worthy of note that the vehicle earlier reported missing from the residence, a Lexus RX300, has been recovered by police operatives during the night hours. The vehicle has since been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
Babaseyi added that the police commissioner expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents that all resources were being deployed to apprehend those responsible. The Command further assured the public that significant progress was being made and pledged to communicate further developments as the investigation advances.
PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that the command launched an investigation after a resident raised an alarm about suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence. Detectives from the Owode Egba Division discovered signs of forced entry and disturbance at the scene.
The security guard’s body was found inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s remains were discovered in her apartment. Her vehicle was missing at the time, raising suspicions that the assailants fled with it after the attack.
Following the incident, CP Ojajuni ordered a comprehensive investigation and directed detectives to deploy intelligence and surveillance assets to track down those responsible. The late Oyesiku, a respected broadcaster and former staff member of the state-owned television, was mourned by colleagues and residents who called for a thorough investigation into the tragic events.
