Adeleke Alleges EFCC Intends to Freeze Osun Government Accounts Before Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has sounded the alarm over an alleged plan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the accounts of the state government and senior officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

A statement released on Wednesday in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, claimed that the anti-corruption agency had finalized arrangements to freeze both state and key officials’ accounts.

Governor Adeleke characterized the reported move as an effort to cripple government operations before the election, warning that such an action would amount to the height of lawlessness.

He further asserted that there is no legal justification for freezing a state government’s accounts, insisting that the EFCC lacks the authority to do so. The governor described the purported plan as politically motivated and intended to disrupt the state ahead of the governorship poll.

“The plot to freeze the state government accounts is meant to paralyze government activities ahead of the August 15th governorship election,” the statement read.

Governor Adeleke emphasized that his administration has operated within the law and will resist any attempt to undermine the smooth governance of Osun State.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not publicly responded to the allegation.
