Edo Man Stages Own Kidnapping, Demands ₦4 Million Ransom from Family

The Edo State Police Command has apprehended two men for allegedly orchestrating a fake kidnapping to extort N4 million from the family of one of the suspects.

The suspects, Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both residents of Uneme Akpama Community, were arrested by officers from the Igarra Division following what the police described as intelligence-driven investigations.

In a statement released on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eno Ikioedem confirmed that detectives uncovered the scheme and arrested the suspects. The police revealed that the plot was executed on June 23, when Enahoro allegedly called Alabi’s relatives, falsely claiming Alabi had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of N4 million for his release.

According to the statement, On June 26, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., operatives of Igarra Division arrested two suspects, Lucky Alabi (male, 48) and Taiye Enahoro (male, 37), both of Uneme Akpama Community, for conspiring to stage the fake kidnapping of Lucky Alabi.

Acting on credible intelligence and thorough investigation, officers uncovered the deception and apprehended both suspects. Preliminary findings show that the criminal plan was carried out on June 23, 2026, when Taiye Enahoro allegedly contacted Alabi’s relatives, falsely claiming he had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom.

The police added that both suspects confessed to their roles in the scheme and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, cautioned the public against engaging in criminal deception, including staging kidnappings to extort money from relatives.

The Edo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that all those involved in criminal acts are brought to justice, the statement quoted the commissioner as saying. The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
