Georgina Rodríguez, the wife of Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, has revealed the reasons behind their choice of an intimate wedding ceremony held in the living room of their Cascais home in Portugal.
The pair exchanged vows on August 11, 2026, nearly a decade after their first encounter at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez worked as a sales assistant.
The ceremony was held at their summer residence in the picturesque coastal resort of Cascais, near Lisbon. It was a private affair, attended only by the couple’s five children and four close witnesses.
In an interview with Vogue, Rodríguez explained that their decision to marry at home was intentional and deeply personal. She shared how her dreams of a lavish wedding transformed as she built a life with Ronaldo.
As a little girl, I imagined the grandest castle, a magnificent carriage, a long gown, and a crown of diamonds, she recalled. Now, I find myself wanting something different something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home.
We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. But an intimate gathering is uniquely special to us.
Rodríguez continued, We chose our living room because it’s where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, where our daily lives unfold. In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something extraordinary happened at this table the wedding vows of their parents.
For the special day, Rodríguez wore a white silk Gucci skirt suit paired with satin shoes, while Ronaldo opted for a light beige suit and custom loafers. Demna Gvasalia, Gucci’s artistic director, noted the significance of their wardrobe choice, as the couple’s love story began at a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016.
It was incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment, knowing their story began in our store, he said. There’s something beautifully poetic about it—a modern fairy tale coming full circle.
Despite the understated ceremony, the couple plans to host a larger celebration with family and friends in the future.
We will have a big wedding one day, so we can celebrate with our loved ones, Rodríguez said.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez made their relationship public in 2016 and tied the knot exactly one year after announcing their engagement, which was marked by an oval-shaped diamond ring weighing approximately 35 carats.
