Nosa Rex Okunzuwa, popularly known as Baba Rex, has credited the lasting success of his 11-year marriage to open communication, mutual understanding, and a solid foundation built before tying the knot.
Speaking on the ‘Nollywood on Radio’ podcast, the actor shared insights into how he and his wife approached marriage, especially given the high rate of failed relationships in the entertainment industry. Before their wedding, the couple discussed these challenges in depth, setting clear expectations from the very beginning.
“I told my wife I wouldn’t misbehave. I asked her to let me enjoy myself too—if she’s traveling, I should be able to travel as well. When we go out to clubs, I promise to come back early,” he recalled.
Baba Rex stressed that ongoing, honest communication has helped them navigate controversies that sometimes come with his public career. He keeps his wife updated on his professional activities and even shares content with her before posting it online. Notably, his wife often serves as his unofficial cinematographer, helping to film some of his more provocative, sexually themed content. This transparency, he said, has prevented misunderstandings and strengthened their relationship.
“I always thank God for blessing me with such a supportive wife,” he said. “Anything I do in the industry, I tell her. Anything you see me post online, I make sure she sees it first. Some of my videos are even shot by my wife. That’s why I’ve been able to manage everything well, and many of my female friends are friends with her too.”
Addressing his sometimes controversial content, Okunzuwa explained that producing sexually suggestive material is his way of expressing creativity and distinguishing himself in a crowded field, not to provoke anyone. “I do those things for fun. I want to stand out from the crowd—not just be another actor. Some people might frown at it, but I enjoy it. These are slangs I created for myself because of the algorithm,” he said.
Nosa Rex Okunzuwa married Deborah Raphael Nwokocha on August 22, 2015, and the couple has two children, a daughter and a son.
