Nigerian actress Ruth Kadiri has warned that extravagant weddings can create undue pressure on couples and their marriages.
In a recent Instagram video, the acclaimed movie producer encouraged people to challenge societal expectations surrounding marriage and success.
Kadiri emphasized that the stress from lavish celebrations is both mental and spiritual—a burden many couples fail to recognize.
I believe big weddings put pressure on couples,” she said. It affects the marriage itself, and many don’t realize this. The pressure isn’t just spiritual; it’s also mental.
Actress Ruth Kadiri has urged parents to ease the financial pressures they place on their children. “This generation needs to change a lot of things,” she said, emphasizing the need to stop expecting children to achieve financial success solely to support their families.
Kadiri, who began her acting career in the mid-2000s, is recognized as one of Nollywood’s most respected figures and is also known for producing films she uploads to YouTube. She married her husband privately in 2019, and the couple share two daughters.
In July, Kadiri spoke candidly about her decision to keep her marriage out of the spotlight, explaining that while she does not intentionally hide her husband, he is not a public figure and often goes unrecognized even when they attend public events or church together.
