The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja has been temporarily closed following a credible security threat identified by the Police Headquarters.
The closure was announced in a security notice jointly issued by the Stadium Management and the Abuja Security Command to all stadium users.
According to the notice, all entrances to the facility were sealed off beginning Monday night, August 3, 2026, and will remain closed until further instructions are received from the Police Headquarters. Individuals still present on the premises were instructed to vacate the stadium promptly and peacefully. Security personnel have been deployed to enforce the closure and maintain public safety.
The management has urged the public to remain calm, comply fully with law enforcement directives, and avoid gathering near the stadium gates. Further updates will be provided as soon as new information is available from the authorities.
This closure affects all current and prospective users of the stadium, including those scheduled to use the pitch on Tuesday.
The Moshood Abiola National Stadium, located on Constitution Avenue in the Kukwaba district of Abuja, is a premier multi-purpose venue and one of Nigeria’s leading sports complexes. With a seating capacity of 60,491, the stadium was completed in 2003 and hosts major sporting events, national functions, and public gatherings. It was renamed in 2019 to honour the late Moshood Abiola, a prominent businessman and politician.
No date has been set for the reopening, and access to the facility will remain suspended until further notice from security authorities.
