A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has stated that no amount of money could convince her to return to Nigeria permanently, citing the tragic loss of her two children due to alleged medical negligence.
The woman, originally from Ogun State, shared her story in a video interview posted on X.com by user #DammieDammie on Wednesday.
When asked if she would accept £200,000 to move back to Nigeria and never return to the UK, she firmly declined, explaining that her emigration was not driven by financial reasons.
“I didn’t migrate from Nigeria because of money,” she said.
Even as the interviewer raised the hypothetical offer to £300,000, £500,000, and eventually £15 million, she remained resolute. “You can’t pay me enough to go back,” she insisted.
Pressed further, the woman revealed the heart-wrenching reason behind her decision: she had lost two children in Nigeria as a result of what she described as medical negligence. “I lost two children to medical negligence, back to back in two years,” she recounted.
She declined to elaborate on the details, saying it would be too emotionally painful to discuss. “I really don’t want to say much on it because I’m just going to break down,” she explained.
According to her, healthcare professionals in the UK are often shocked when she shares her experience. “Every time I tell the doctors here how my children died, they all ask me, ‘Am I joking?’” she added.
She also credited the UK’s healthcare system with saving her son’s life, expressing her belief that he might not have survived if he had been born in Nigeria. “When I had my son, I knew that if he was in Nigeria, he would have died also. But because I had him here, there was medical attention. They did what needed to be done, and he’s fine,” she said, gesturing to her son during the interview.
While acknowledging that medical errors can occur anywhere, she emphasized that such incidents are far less common in the UK. “I know it happens here also, but the ratio is very, very low,” she concluded.
