Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election, has responded to Davido’s call for him not to “interfere” in the upcoming Osun polls.
Uzodimma advised the singer to direct his concerns to the voters rather than to him, emphasizing that the outcome of the election would be determined by the people of Osun.
Davido, while addressing Accord Party supporters in Osogbo on Wednesday, said he had heard rumours of alleged plans by Uzodimma to disrupt the election. The Grammy-nominated artist urged that Osun residents be allowed to freely choose their next governor in a peaceful contest.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday by his aide, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma dismissed Davido’s appeal as misplaced. He described it as “rather pedestrian” to appeal to the APC campaign chairman simply because his wife is from Imo State, reiterating that the focus should be on the voters who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome.
Uzodimma reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful, free, and credible election, stating that the APC would continue to engage Osun voters to support its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
He also criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, describing it as a “woeful failure” and claiming that many Osun voters were eager for change. Uzodimma suggested that Davido would be better off helping his uncle prepare for life after office, even jesting that the singer might soon need to hire Adeleke as a dancer in his band.
“The signals from across Osun State are clear. There is a growing sense that voters have rejected the current administration and are ready for a new direction,” Uzodimma said. “Rather than making emotional appeals to me, Davido should focus on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun seem ready to support the APC candidate.”
