Davido Urges Uzodimma: Don’t Make Osun Election a Battleground

Nigerian music star Davido has appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to avoid interfering in the upcoming Osun governorship election, urging him instead to champion a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Governor Uzodimma, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national campaign council for the August 15 Osun poll, was specifically addressed by Davido whose full name is David Adeleke during a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The singer, who is also the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and leader of the Imole youth campaign mobilization team, expressed concerns about reports suggesting external attempts to sway the election or use Osun as a political battleground.

“To our daddy from Imo State, I’ve heard rumours that there are plans to interfere in the Osun State election or use the state for political interests,” Davido said. “While I cannot confirm these claims, I appeal to you to use your influence for peace and let the people of Osun freely choose their leader.”

Davido emphasized the sincerity of his plea, citing his personal ties to Imo State through his wife, Chioma Adeleke. “My wife is from Imo, so this is a personal appeal—let democracy prevail and allow Osun people to decide their future at the ballot box. Regardless of the outcome, please do not let political ambition endanger lives in Osun.”

He called on eligible voters to participate in the election without fear, stressing the importance of respecting the will of the electorate and ensuring that every vote counts. Davido also urged political supporters to reject violence, intimidation, and provocation throughout the election period.

Adeleke is seeking a second term, running on the Accord Party platform. Davido, a vocal supporter of his uncle, has reiterated his commitment to a fair election, previously vowing to resist any manipulation attempts. He also recently accused former governor Gboyega Oyetola of political desperation and plotting unrest in the state.

Davido concluded by expressing confidence in Governor Adeleke’s prospects and encouraged young voters to participate peacefully, emphasizing the necessity for credible and transparent elections in Osun.
