Gunman Opens Fire at Kano ‘DJ’ Wedding, Leaving One Dead and Three Injured

A tragic incident occurred during a recent marriage ceremony, commonly referred to as a “DJ” event, in Kano, where one person lost their life and three others were injured after a man allegedly opened fire.

The suspected shooter, identified as 34-year-old Rabiu Mukhtar, has been arrested in connection with the attack.

According to the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, Mukhtar allegedly used a pump-action gun to shoot four people at the event, which took place at Tudun Yola on August 16. The police spokesperson confirmed that Mukhtar was apprehended, and the firearm was recovered from his possession.

The victims—Sadiq Abubakar, Umar Rabiu, Muhammad Sadisu, and Aliyu Mustapha—were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment. Sadly, Aliyu Mustapha later died at the hospital, while the other three victims are reportedly responding to medical care.

CSP Haruna-Kiyawa disclosed that Mukhtar and another individual were taken into custody as investigations continue at the Command Headquarters, Bompai, Kano. Preliminary findings suggest that the violence may have been triggered by disputes over music being played at the event. The suspect also claimed he fired the weapon after hearing rumors that local thugs, known as ‘Yan daba’, were approaching the venue.

The police have assured that the suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation. (NAN)
