Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have rescued two kidnap victims during a coordinated operation in Igbonla, Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State.
The victims, Mr. Kelvin Okafor and Mr. Alex Anato, were abducted while working on a community farm on Friday, September 4, 2026.
The rescue mission was launched after security forces received reliable intelligence regarding the abduction and the victims’ location. Acting swiftly on this information, the joint team mobilized to the area and raided the kidnappers’ hideout.
Upon sighting the approaching security personnel, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled into the surrounding forest.
Security operatives pursued the fleeing suspects, resulting in the neutralization of one kidnapper, while two others escaped deeper into the forest.
The rescued victims were found unharmed and have been handed over to the police for medical evaluation, debriefing, and further action. The remains of the neutralized kidnapper were also transferred to the police for appropriate procedures.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
The Army stated that intelligence-driven operations would continue, aiming to deny criminals freedom of action and enhance the safety and security of communities nationwide.
