Segun Johnson, the Nigerian singer, has revealed that hunger pushed him into doing music.
In a recent episode of the WithChude podcast, Johnson reflected on how his career began and how he was involved in many activities as a teenager, including playing football and drawing.
He, however, pointed out that when he needed to make money, he had to turn to music. He also revealed that he started his career by playing drum sets at various events and special church programmes.
What led me into music was purely hunger. At a tender age, I was doing a lot of things, and most teenagers are usually lost in the midst of being multitalented. I was playing football, I used to be a good artiste back in school, I was playing the drum set, I was doing a lot of things,” he said.
But when I needed to make money quickly at a tender age, music was the solution for me. So because I played drums back then and I was a little bit good at it, I started going for different events with different musicians. Then I started playing for different churches when they had special programs.”
Johnson took to music at a tender age as a local drummer in the church.
His musical journey evolved as he transitioned into singing at 24 and launched his professional career as a crossover live band artiste at 25.
