Lionel Richie, the iconic American singer, has been hospitalized once again after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition characterized by an irregular heartbeat.
This recent health challenge has led Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire to cancel the next three dates of their ‘Sing a Song All Night Long’ tour, which were set for September 26 in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago, and October 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
Richie recently underwent an AFib ablation a minimally invasive procedure designed to correct irregular heart rhythms. According to his representative, the procedure was successful, and Richie is currently recovering before making his return to the stage.
This is Richie’s third hospitalization in recent months. Less than a month ago, he was admitted to a St.
Louis hospital following his August 29 performance at The Muny, where he spent three days undergoing tests for cardiac issues after appearing unwell at the end of the concert. He was discharged on September 2.
The 77-year-old singer also experienced a health episode in June while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota. During that show, Richie told the audience he was feeling dizzy, quipping, “when you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.”
On his doctor’s advice, he postponed two shows, but was able to return to the stage on June 30 in Pittsburgh.
