Police operatives have arrested a suspect in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State following allegations of assault and threats to life reported by his fiancée.
According to a statement released in Calabar on Wednesday by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, spokesperson for the Cross River Police Command, the arrest was made after a female resident of Ibiaeh Palm Estate reported her fiancé to the Biase Police Division on October 18, alleging repeated assaults and threats to her life.
Acting on the report, officers searched the suspect’s residence on October 19. During the search, they recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a black beret believed to be linked to the Aye Confraternity secret cult.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the recovered items and to verify his alleged cult affiliation.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ajo Ordue, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating cultism, illegal firearm possession, threats to life, and other violent crimes.
He urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and threats to their safety through proper security channels, assuring the public that the police will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure prosecution in line with the law.
