Murder Suspect Killaboi Tells Court: My Late Girlfriend Requested N1.5m to Sleep with Another Man

Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, popularly known as Killaboi, recounted in a Lagos high court how he allegedly discovered Instagram messages indicating that his late girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion, was negotiating a sexual encounter with another man for N1.5 million.

Killaboi, currently on trial for Augusta’s alleged murder, gave this testimony before Justice Ibironke Harrison on Thursday.

According to his account, the episode began in late June 2023 after he lost money gambling and became withdrawn. Augusta tried to comfort him by reminding him of previous wins, but he remained despondent. She later returned to school, and Killaboi, who had access to her Instagram account, began monitoring her conversations. He told the court he noticed she frequently messaged people who were not her friends and often deleted these chats. Over a week, he observed invitations to clubs and enquiries about Augusta’s well-being.

Before Augusta’s planned visit to Lagos, Killaboi said he intended to log out of her account to avoid detection. However, a day before her trip, he claimed to have seen a message from an account named “Yako,” where the sender addressed Augusta as “sweetheart” and discussed moving their conversation to Instagram after deactivating Snapchat. The sender reportedly asked when she would visit Lagos, to which Augusta allegedly replied she could come whenever he wanted. The exchange, he claimed, turned to payment, with Augusta refusing to lower her price for the meeting.

To investigate further, Killaboi said he created a WhatsApp account using a virtual SIM and Yako’s details, then resumed the conversation with Augusta while posing as Yako. He testified that she quoted N1.5 million as her price, rejecting lower offers, and agreed to meet in either a hotel or an apartment. He also claimed they discussed having unprotected sex after medical tests.

The defendant told the court the nature of the messages left him distraught, shaking, and emotionally overwhelmed. He considered sending money to arrange a confrontation but abandoned the idea, deciding instead to end the relationship. He confronted Augusta during a video call, revealed what he had discovered, and declared their relationship over, even threatening to inform her mother.

Killaboi described his close relationship with Augusta’s mother, who, when informed, expressed disapproval not over the breakup but over his unauthorized access to Augusta’s account, reminding him it was a criminal act. This response angered him, as he had called to explain the breakup, not discuss his methods of discovery.

During proceedings, Killaboi’s lawyer, Marcel Oru, requested that Augusta’s mother and brother leave the courtroom before a proposed video recording was played to spare them further emotional distress. The prosecution did not object, though the recording had yet to be formally submitted as evidence. The court adjourned the case until December 7 and 8, 2026.

The Lagos State police declared Killaboi wanted on October 10, 2023, following his confession to Augusta’s murder. Augusta Oseodion was allegedly killed on July 13, 2023, at Killaboi’s residence in Oral Estate, Ajah. He claimed to have “mistakenly” stabbed her during an argument and insisted he never intended to kill her.
