Nigerian troops are currently engaged in a fierce gun battle with Boko Haram fighters at Kareto, north of Borno state.
Informing the public of their activities against the Islamist sect, the Nigerian Army wrote on Twitter: “Please be informed that our troops are currently engaged in fierce battle with Boko Haram terrorists at Kareto, Northern Borno. Details soon”

Since Muhammadu Buhari emerged president in May 2015, Nigerian troops have had an upper hand against the terrorists, clearing them from most of the areas they once held sway.
