Rooney’s China move could make him world’s best paid player

Manchester United have been unable to deny the possibility of Wayne Rooney leaving imminently for China, and reports suggest the striker will become the sport’s top earner should he move east.

The Super League transfer window doesn’t shut for a week and it’s believed that the England captain is subject to great interest from the division, with Beijing Guoan and Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao among those linked.A number of British outlets are now reporting that Rooney will earn 1.2 million euros per week in China, amounting to an annual salary of 62.4m euros.

That would far outstrip Carlos Tevez’s record yearly takings of 38m euros at Shanghai Shenhua, who signed the Argentine in the summer.Still contracted to United until 2018, Rooney’s future has not been confirmed by coach Jose Mourinho, who has merely stated that he is not pushing the forward out of the club amid suggestions that he’s given the green light to the deal.
