Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has voiced his frustration about being unmarried and childless.
In a candid Instagram video, Darlington whose real name is Darlington Okoye shared his discontent with his current life, stating that he does not want to continue living without a family. He emphasized that, despite holding American citizenship, he desires more from life than just official papers.
I’m almost 60. I have not gotten married, nor do I have children. Every time I see a girl I like, the thought of marriage feels like handcuffs. Is this really how I want to live my life? All I have to show are American papers. But that’s not what I want out of life. I want family, freedom, and respect, he said.
Recently, the singer announced he was willing to offer N5 million to any woman aged 20-24 willing to have a child for him, clarifying that he was not interested in marriage but simply wanted to become a father.
In 2025, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) declared Darlington wanted for alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking after he failed to respond to a summons regarding his public admission of having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.
Following widespread backlash, Darlington retracted his confession, claiming it was fictional. He subsequently filed a lawsuit against the agency, arguing that declaring him wanted without a court order was unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional.
