Argentina Suffers Another Blow as Lautaro Martinez Joins Messi on the Sidelines

Argentina will be without Lautaro Martinez for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, as the Inter Milan striker has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Martinez’s withdrawal follows that of Lionel Messi, who is also sidelined due to adductor discomfort. The absence of both stars leaves Lionel Scaloni with key decisions to make in attack, with Julian Alvarez expected to lead the frontline.

Argentina FA Confirms Martinez’s Injury

The Argentina FA confirmed his exclusion in a statement on X:

“#SelecciónMayor Forward Lautaro Martínez will be out of the squad for this March double date due to a muscle injury in his lower left hamstring.”

Martinez trained separately at the Ezeiza training facility before it was ultimately decided that returning to Italy for rehabilitation was the best option.

Argentina’s Path in World Cup Qualifiers

Despite these setbacks, La Albiceleste still sit five points clear at the top of the South American World Cup qualifying table.

Their upcoming fixtures include:
⚔️ March 21 – 🇺🇾 Uruguay (Centenario Stadium, Montevideo)
⚔️ March 25 – 🇧🇷 Brazil (Monumental Stadium, Buenos Aires)
