Ben White’s move to Arsenal from Brighton made a splash this week, with the Gunners spending 58 million euros to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s defence.
A lot of questions were asked of the sum, but White showed on his debut on Sunday just what he can bring to the Arsenal back line.
In the 53rd minute of the friendly, with his side trailing 1-0, White watched on as Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech went through and rounded Bernd Leno. With just one Arsenal defender between Ziyech and goal, the Moroccan hesitated to finish.
That was all that White needed to race back and make an incredible block, keeping the score at 1-0. Despite that, Arsenal went on to lose 2-1.
