Coolio, ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ rapper, dies at 59

Coolio, the US rap star known for the iconic hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, has died at the age of 59.

According to TMZ, Jarez Posey, his manager, said he was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s house in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Paramedics who were called to the scene pronounced him dead on the spot.

The circumstances surrounding his passing are still unclear.

It is understood that the police have opened a death investigation and are yet to spot any signs of foul play.

The rapper started making music in the 1980s but became famed when he recorded ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ in 1995.

Coolio, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr, scored a Grammy for the hit song.

‘Gangstar Paradise’ was part of the soundtrack for the movie ‘Dangerous Minds’ starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

The track has, to date, been widely played and has passed a billion streams on Spotify.

With his career spanning four decades, Coolio has recorded eight studio albums.

His other hits songs included ‘Fantastic Voyage’, ‘Rollin’ With My Homies’, ‘1, 2, 3, 4’, and ‘Too Hot’.
