English press link Jacobs to a doping investigation

The 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will forever be synonymous with the name of Lamont Marcell Jacobs, with the Italian taking gold in both the men’s 100-metre final and the 4×100 relay as well.

Since his crowning as the world’s fastest man, though, he has faced backlash from the English and American press.

The latest case of this has come in The Times’ sport section. The English publication have pointed fingers at the runner, leading with a headline that policing are “probing” his nutritionist.

The Times have claimed that Jacobs developed a lot physically after working with Giacomo Spazzini, a bodybuilder whose focus is on nutrition. To support their case, they made reference to videos of the two on social media discussing plans to break the 10-second barrier.

They have also reported that a police investigation is focused around Milan and the case originated in 2019.

Jacobs’ defence
Lamont Marcell Jacobs has defender himself from the beginning and denies any links with doping. Marcelo Magnani, Jacobs’ representative, insists that there is no longer a relationship between his client and Spazzini, claiming that it ended once the investigation – that never concerned Jacobs – was opened.
