A 54-year-old construction worker died on Friday while working on the redevelopment of Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium, according to Catalan regional police.
This marks the first fatal accident at the site since renovation efforts began in June 2023. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the worker could not be revived.
Authorities believe he died as a result of a blow. An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
The Camp Nou renovation project, which began three years ago, has faced delays due to permit issues and concerns over working conditions.
Current work is focused in part on installing a compression ring to support the stadium’s new roof structure. The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in early 2028.
