Gabriel Afolayan: The Okoye brothers’ (Psquare) feud began as far back as 2005, with Jude playing a significant role

Nigerian actor Gabriel Afolayan has shed light on the longstanding feud between twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, formerly known as Psquare, revealing that their disagreements stretch as far back as 2005.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Afolayan recounted his own interactions with the duo, reflecting on the origins of their disputes.

Afolayan explained that tensions between the brothers began during the “Get Squared” era, particularly over which songs should be included on their albums. He noted that arguments frequently arose about whose tracks would be selected, with their elder brother Jude Okoye ultimately making the final decisions.

The Psquare story I know dates back to 2005 at EKO Reelmix studio. They’ve always had issues with song selection for any album they planned to release. Arguments on whose songs should be picked more, and Jude has always been the decider,” he wrote.

According to Afolayan, the discord between Peter and Paul is not a recent development but persisted even during their most successful years. He also hinted that the feud extended beyond music, mentioning underlying tensions related to the brothers’ marriages.

Psquare rose to fame in the early 2000s and became one of Africa’s biggest music acts, releasing several hit albums before their relationship soured due to disputes over Jude’s role as their manager. This rift culminated in their split in 2017.

They reconciled in 2021, staging a reunion concert that December. However, the group split again in 2024, with Paul alleging that Peter was involved in his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In recent months, the feud has intensified. Peter changed his official birth date and accused Paul of trying to damage his reputation. Last week, Peter further accused Jude of excluding him from music catalogue earnings, including a $25,000 payment, and claimed he was not a signatory to an account used to collect royalties.

Jude denied these allegations, while Paul announced his decision to distance himself from the family feud. Another elder brother, Henry Okoye, also blamed Jude for the ongoing family rift.
