How Chris Rock’s $40 Million Divorce Impacted His Wealth

American comedian Chris Rock has candidly discussed the profound financial impact of his 2016 divorce, revealing that the $40 million settlement to his ex-wife wiped out the bulk of his Hollywood fortune.

In a recent interview with Variety, the 61-year-old comic admitted he’s feeling the pinch so much so that he half-jokingly pleaded with movie executives to revive the Madagascar franchise, the blockbuster animated series that previously padded his bank account.

“I got divorced. I don’t have Madagascar money anymore, Rock quipped, referencing the beloved children’s films that have grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide.

Rock has long been open about the toll of his divorce. During his 2017 stand-up tour—famously branded the “alimony tour he wryly warned audiences about the financial hazards of marital breakdown.

You don’t want to get divorced, I tell you right now. If you’ve got somebody you love, hold tight,” he joked. “I had to pay for a lawyer to divorce me. That’s like hiring a hitman to kill you.”

Rock’s recent revelation about losing his Madagascar millions quickly sent shockwaves through social media.

Fans expressed disbelief at the scale of the loss, with one exclaiming, “She took the Madagascar money?! and another observing, “I swear divorces are bleeding dudes dry!!”

Despite suffering a major financial setback, Rock remains resilient. Celebrity wealth analysts estimate his current net worth at a robust $60 million, thanks in part to a $40 million Netflix deal and his relentless global comedy tours as he works to rebuild his fortune.
