The husband of Olufunmilayo Timehin, the slain retired magistrate in Ogun State has revealed that the alleged killer of his wife hid within the family compound 24 hours before he struck 28 March.
Wole Timehin, the 70 year-old widowers spoke today to newsmen at the family’s home in Laderin Estate in Abeokuta. He said from the suspect’s confessional statement given to the police, the suspect said he hid himself in the gate house overnight and attacked the retired magistrate when she was left alone at home. Earlier reports had said Olufunmilayo was brutally attacked on her return home from an outing.
“Unknown to us,the boy hid in the gate house overnight, before he struck the following day having monitored our movement and knowing that,my wife remained the only person at home after I had gone out”.
David, the 21 year old suspect had been sacked by the retired magistrate,Olufunmilayo Timehin for stealing some valuables of the family. He was handed over to the police but later freed. Few days later, he sneaked into the house to machete his former boss to death. The pharmacist husband of the deceased debunked the rumour making round that the boy was owed some money. He explained that the family was not owing the suspect any salary as he allegedly claimed, but rather was always pampered by the family.
We never owed him any salary, rather we did pamper him and make him comfortable. We provided a conducive environment for him. You can see the self-contained room we allocated to him with all needed facilities”,the widower stated.
He revealed that after David was arrested for stealing, the family pleaded for his release so that he would not end up in jail and being hardened as a criminal. We counselled him severally, but we never knew he was a devil in human-skin. Was it a wrong thing to have saved him from ending up in prisons”,he queried. Mr. Wole Timehin said he was still in shock over the brutal murder of his wife.
“My wife was a mother, I am going to miss her,no day passes when I will not remember her. It’s unfortunate it has to end like this. When I look around in our bedroom and can’t find her, I felt worried”,he lamented. He advised those hiring domestic aides to ensuring they do background checks before employing them, stressing that the grown up domestic aides are even more dangerous.
The widower disclosed that the family will meet in the next few days to decide the burial date for his wife. He said one of the children, Seun Timehin a Medical Doctor abroad would have returned.
The second child of the slain woman is known as Olumide, a bio-chemist.
