The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.
Governor Oyebanji secured re-election after polling 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers: Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 12,872 votes. Voting took place across all 16 local government areas of the state.
The Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the official results early Sunday morning at INEC’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti. She stated:
Having satisfied the requirements of the law, I, Adenike Oladiji, hereby declare Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi as the duly elected Governor of Ekiti State.
INEC reported a total of 988,251 registered voters, with 384,940 accredited for the election. Out of 382,109 total votes cast, 375,777 were valid.
Notably, the PDP candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, lost in his own Ikere Local Government Area, where the APC polled 8,742 votes to the PDP’s 2,051. Below are the official results from all 16 local government areas as announced at the State Collation Centre:
