Instagram bans Pornhub account over repeated violations

Meta have permanently removed Pornhub’s Instagram account for “repeatedly violating our policies”, three weeks after the porn sites official account was deactivated.

Pornhub have responded by posting an open letter on Twitter addressed to four Meta executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, arguing that the platform’s policies are “opaque, discriminatory and hypocritical”.

The letter specifically cites an Instagram post by Kim Kardashian in which she exposes her butt, and which still remains on the platform.

The site also claims that the deletion of their account is “deeply damaging” to independent creators who use Instagram as a “vital marketing tool”. The Pornhub account, which had more than 13 million followers, was initially deactivated on September 2.

Instagram’s arguments

In a screenshot shared with The New York Post, Instagram sent Pornhub a message that read: “Your account has been disabled for not following our terms. You will not be able to log in to this account and no one else will be able to view it.”

The message also contained a list of content banned on the platform, including “hate speech” and “graphic depictions of sexual assault”, but did not include any mention of sexual solicitation.

“We demand that Instagram immediately end all discrimination toward those involved in the adult industry,” wrote Pornhub. “This means providing full transparency and clear explanations for any suspended or banned accounts, ending shadow banning practices, and immediately reinstating all accounts, including Pornhub, that have not violated any of Instagram’s Terms and Policies.”
