Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly expressed her support and well-wishes for former President Joe Biden following the announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) after the news broke, Harris conveyed sympathy and solidarity on behalf of herself and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis, Harris wrote. We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time.
Harris described the president as a fighter, stating her confidence in his ability to confront the diagnosis with characteristic determination.
Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership, she said, expressing hope for a full and speedy recovery.
The 81-year-old former president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a statement released earlier by his personal office.
The cancer, characterised by a high Gleason score, has reportedly metastasised to the bone but remains hormone-sensitive — a condition that doctors say can be effectively managed with appropriate treatment.
Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his physicians.
