Kuwait Airport Hit by Drone Strike, Fuel Tanks Ablaze

Kuwait’s civil aviation authority announced on Wednesday that an Iranian drone attack targeted the Gulf state’s international airport, igniting a major fire at fuel storage tanks.

According to the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Abdullah Al‑Rajhi, spokesman for the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, stated: Kuwait International Airport has been subjected to blatant attacks by drones launched by Iran and the armed factions it supports.” He confirmed that fuel storage tanks were hit, triggering a significant blaze, but reported no casualties.

Since the outbreak of the conflict—sparked by US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28—Tehran has launched missiles and drones at Israel and Gulf allies of the United States.

Elsewhere in the Gulf on Wednesday, Bahrain’s interior ministry reported a fire at a business facility as a result of the Iranian aggression, while Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed several drones.

In addition, a British maritime security agency reported that a tanker off the coast of Qatar was struck by two projectiles 17 nautical miles (31 kilometers) north of Ras Laffan, a key natural gas hub. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said one projectile started a fire, which was extinguished, while another remained unexploded in the vessel’s engine room. All crew members were safe, and no environmental impact was reported. Authorities are investigating the incident.

On Tuesday, KUNA said an Iranian attack at Dubai Port caused a fire on a Kuwaiti oil tanker, with no injuries reported.

The Gulf region, rich in oil and gas, has been a primary target of Iran’s retaliatory strikes following the US-Israeli attacks. Tehran has threatened to strike critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, across the Gulf.
