Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a sensational swap deal that would see underperforming striker Rasmus Hojlund return to Atalanta, with in-form Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman moving in the opposite direction to Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, United are running out of patience with Hojlund, who has struggled to deliver since his €75m arrival in 2023. The 22-year-old Danish international has scored just 24 goals in 88 games, falling short of expectations under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
The proposed deal would mark a homecoming for Hojlund, with Atalanta reportedly still believing in his potential. Meanwhile, Lookman—who has been thriving in Serie A remains open to a Premier League return, making the swap a realistic possibility.
United’s striker shortlist grows While Lookman is high on the list, United are also monitoring Liam Delap of Ipswich Town and Matheus Cunha of Wolves, as they seek attacking reinforcements ahead of the 2025/26 season.
However, United’s pull in the transfer market may depend on whether they qualify for Champions League football. With a top-four Premier League finish out of reach, their only route is through winning the Europa League.
Stay tuned this summer could bring a major shake-up at the Theatre of Dreams.
