This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa Police Command.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended in two separate operations across the state.

In one operation, officers attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) were on intensive patrol around Ombi I, Lafia, when they intercepted three suspects—Julius Ishaya, Shuaibu Nuhu, and David Usman—carrying a small handbag. A search of the bag led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol, one live 9mm round of ammunition, and four Android phones.

“The suspects have been taken into custody while investigation is ongoing to unravel their criminal network and possible involvement in other crimes,” Nansel stated.

The statement further revealed that, on the same day, the Area Commander, Metro Lafia, received a distress call from a resident of Bukan Kwato area. The caller reported that members of an unlawful society, who had allegedly held a meeting in Lafia, were intercepted while returning to Mararaba Akunza via the New Bypass.

Acting on this information, a patrol team was dispatched to the scene, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: Abubakar Ibrahim (17), Walid Mohammed (14), and Zubairu Ibrahim, all residents of Mararaba Akunza, Lafia. Items recovered from the suspects included a locally made pistol, an axe, and a red beret suspected to be linked to cult activities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended his officers for their swift response and professionalism, reassuring residents of the Command’s steadfast commitment to protecting lives and property during and after the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

He warned criminal elements and members of unlawful societies to desist from illegal activities or face the full weight of the law. He also called on the public to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information to strengthen security across the state.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
