Edo Queens Clinch WAFU-B Title, Secure CAF Champions League Spot

Edo Queens clinched the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title after staging a dramatic late comeback against Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Saturday night’s final in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Nigerian champions twice battled from behind to secure a 2-2 draw in regulation time before demonstrating nerves of steel in the penalty shootout, where they triumphed 4-1 to claim the regional trophy. This victory also guarantees Edo Queens a spot in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

Ampem Darkoa started the match in electrifying fashion, taking the lead just two minutes after kick-off through Beline Nyarkoh. However, Edo Queens responded almost immediately, as Doosuur Anastasia Atume equalized just two minutes later to restore parity.

The score remained 1-1 for much of the contest until Nyarkoh struck again in the 74th minute, putting the Ghanaian side ahead once more. With Ampem Darkoa seemingly set for victory, Edo Queens mounted a relentless late push and found their reward deep into stoppage time. Oluebube Umejiaku scored in the 94th minute to level the match at 2-2 and send the final into penalties.

In the ensuing shootout, Edo Queens displayed superior composure, converting four penalties while Ampem Darkoa managed only one. The 4-1 shootout win capped a remarkable comeback for the Nigerian champions, booking their place at the next CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
